Launching in the U.S. in 1979 the name was supposed to be “Absolute Pure Vodka” but they could not trademark the word absolute and there were legal problems with pure. So it was back to the Swedish original name of Absolut, making them unique from the start. By 1985 Absolut was the leading imported vodka in the U.S. This ad made the 50 ml bottle the hero for a change. As an added bonus think how much the airlines saved by cutting out the plastic cups.
